This series of Trumpet bowls is a juxtaposition of form and function, about movement inward and outward, about containing and serving, holding and giving.
The form relates to the bell of a trumpet, projecting sound. Trumpet bowls flare up and out and, conversely, in and down. The ash glaze on these Trumpet bowls symbolizes this. It flows down and inward during the firing, but the movement can be re-traced from the center outward, expanding like the organic flow of a tree trunk into a multitude of branches, or the clear note of a trumpet.
