The Tower series of sculptural forms is about uplift, energy, and thrust. The flow begins at the bottom, from the wide base, pushing upward, and then compressed through a narrower cylinder. The markings suggest stress from the forces being exerted both from the inside and outside of the tower as it is formed.
This conceptualization of movement and energy relates to the powerful geologic forces of volcanic eruptions. Devils Tower National Monument in Wyoming is an example of such a natural occurrence. First the Tower is soft clay, like molten lava, but later it hardens… magma into stone, clay into porcelain.
